I’d also like to acknowledge the hard work of our dedicated staff, who go above and beyond to create a supportive and inspiring environment for our students. Their efforts are very much appreciated.

While many of us are on holiday, our facilities staff have a lot to do. They get to work with our annual program of ‘spring cleaning’ and refreshing the school facilities for the new year. In addition to this, there are some small refurbishment projects.

In boarding, the Sutherland bathroom showers will be refreshed with new tiles, and the Year 12 rooms will be refurbished. Also, Ms Café will be turned into a multi-use space – a classroom as well as a small functions area. Unfortunately, our new playground in primary has been delayed. However, it should be completed for the start of Term 2, 2026.

Hopefully, too, we will be able to complete the old pool demolition in preparation for the ÃÈÃÃÉç’s Performing Arts Precinct.

There is much to do over the break. All this work will happen, even though the school closes over Christmas/New Year from 3pm, Friday 19 December 2025 to 8am Monday 5 January 2026.

As we head into the holiday break, I hope everyone enjoys some well-deserved rest and spends quality time with family and friends. Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday and a Merry Christmas. I look forward to welcoming everyone back next year, ready for new challenges and successes.

This week we have celebrated the graduating Year 6 students with their final chapel service. At the service I reflected on letting your light shine in the world, through the lens of the latest Wicked movie. Wicked: For Good. Part Two, was once again a celebration of the power of friendship, particularly in a world where people are clutching for power and control.

It was easy for the characters to become overwhelmed by the desire for power, prestige, and popularity and lose sight of their friends’ needs, and the greater, common good.

Popularity feels good, at least at the surface level. But if our goal is popularity rather than connection and friendship, we lose sight of ourselves, and of what is important to us, and can soon feel lost and alone.

This is the story of life. We are consistently bombarded with choices. Choices that can lead us in multiple directions - some helpful, some harmful.

Our relationships, communities and connections shape who we are. Science says they are a key contributor to physical and mental health and longevity. When we live from a place of connection, we become salt and light in the world. The world around us becomes more interesting and alive, our minds are opened wide, and we grow - our whole being is expanded toward compassion.

Yesterday, we gathered with the Pre-Prep students to celebrate their end of year chapel. Thank you to Mrs Knowles, Mrs Hobbs, the Primary Leadership Team, Ms Brennan and all who made the celebration the joy that it was. This morning, we gathered for our whole school Christmas service and celebrated the story of God showing us his love in the birth of Jesus.

May your holidays, and Christmas celebrations be filled with the love and peace of God.

During the annual Boarding Christmas dinner, the 2026 Boarding Captains, Matilda M and Bridget S, spoke on behalf of all boarders, extending heartfelt thanks to the many teams and individuals who support the boarding experience.

They began by acknowledging the Facilities and Cleaning Team, recognising the vital role they play in keeping the boarding environment safe, clean, and welcoming. Their tireless work behind the scenes ensures that students can rest comfortably each night, knowing their home is well cared for.

The Boarder Prep Teachers were also thanked for their commitment to providing academic support beyond the regular school day. Their willingness to volunteer their time helps boarders stay focused after long hours of learning and reinforces the value of continued growth and study.

The Heads of Year received warm appreciation for their steady guidance and presence throughout the year. Their consistent support helps students navigate school life, celebrate their achievements, and grow both personally and academically. The Captains acknowledged how fortunate they felt to journey through each year level under such dedicated leadership.

Special recognition was given to the staff member who oversees the Laundry. Michelle’s work ensures students always have clean uniforms and bedding - an effort that requires patience, organisation, and exceptional care. This behind-the-scenes support does not go unnoticed and is deeply appreciated by the boarders.

The Chefs were also celebrated for the joy and comfort they bring to the boarding house through the meals they prepare. Each dish contributes to a sense of togetherness, turning mealtimes into moments of warmth and connection. Their efforts make boarding life not only nourishing but also festive and enjoyable.

The Nursing team was acknowledged as the quiet guardians of student wellbeing. Whether managing late-night fevers or handling unexpected injuries, they are always ready with calm reassurance and compassion. Their care reminds boarders that wellbeing extends beyond treatment, it includes feeling safe, supported, and understood.

The future Boarding Captains also expressed gratitude to the Senior Leadership Team, recognising their vision and commitment to boarding. Through their ongoing support and thoughtful decision-making, they ensure that boarders have the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.

Finally, the Boarding Staff were honoured as the true heart of the boarding community. Their role extends far beyond supervision, they nurture, guide, support, and stand beside boarders through every challenge and triumph. From early mornings to late nights, they consistently create an environment where students feel safe, valued, and at home. They model independence while providing the reassurance that no boarder ever faces their journey alone.

In closing, the 2026 Boarding Captains reflected on the idea that it truly takes a village to raise a child. They expressed profound gratitude to the boarding village that surrounds the students each day with love, guidance, and encouragement. This collective care is what makes boarding life so meaningful, and their appreciation for every person involved is unmistakable.

The celebration concluded with a well-deserved round of applause for the entire boarding community, a village that continues to help its young people grow, learn, and thrive.

And to our parents: thank you for your ongoing support of your children and of our school.

The summer break is a valuable time to recharge – physically, mentally, and emotionally. Personally, I’ll be prioritising time outdoors, connecting with loved ones, and making a dent in my ever-growing reading list. Whatever your plans, I hope the holidays offer you rest, renewal, and joy.

End of the Year Reporting Process (Years 7-11)

End of Semester Reports will be available to be accessed through Parent Lounge on Friday 5 December after 3:00pm. Please note also that all Continuous Reporting Information will be available from this date as well.

Each student’s report will consist of a comment from her Head of Year, as well as a summary for each subject. The final page of the report is the Grade Point Average (GPA) graph which records the student’s overall level of achievement and tracks this from semester to semester.

For each subject, there is a list of the course content, marks for the criteria assessed, a table showing the distribution of achievement levels within the subject, and an assessment of your daughter’s attitude to her learning. The academic results reflected in this report are based on the assessment completed throughout Semester 2.

Please note that Year 12 students do not receive a final End of Semester 2 report from the school as final results will be recorded on your daughters Queensland Certificate of Education that is sent from QCAA.

Outdoor Education Adventures Complete

Earlier this week, our Years 8 and 10 students returned from transformative outdoor education experiences. Year 8 explored the stunning Mapleton QCCC in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, where bushwalking, team-building activities, and environmental challenges developed resilience and deepened friendships. Year 10 conquered the ultimate leadership test at Gympie, tackling navigation challenges, outdoor cooking, and crisis management scenarios that built confidence and decision-making skills for their senior years. Our intrepid explorers have returned with newfound confidence, unforgettable experiences, and stronger bonds within their year levels.

Christmas Choral Competition Brings Joy

Today's highlight is our much-anticipated Christmas Choral Competition, where all eight Houses showcase their creativity and musical talents. Our girls have collaborated across year levels, writing original arrangements and choreographing memorable performances. The energy and enthusiasm filling our halls perfectly embodies our valued House spirit and community traditions.

As students prepare for their well-earned holiday break, we encourage them to take pride in their accomplishments – from mastering challenging concepts to forming new friendships and discovering hidden talents.

As a primary school, we proudly support three charities each year, working together to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others.

A meaningful learning experience for our Year 6 students this week was to raise money for their chosen charity, Malala Fund and school charity One Horizon. They gained valuable skills in responsibility, collaboration, and organisation as they worked together to plan and execute different stages of their fundraising activity. 

Zephyr is a Brisbane based charity which helps children affected by domestic violence get back to school. This week the Year 5 girls donated lunchboxes and $2000 for this worthy cause.

Thank you to the class ambassadors who organised and ran a second-hand uniform stall last week, with the help of our dedicated parents who worked tirelessly throughout the week and raised $1500, $700 of this amount is donated for a child in need through the Smith Family sponsorship. 

In addition to these projects, it is a tradition for our primary school to support children in Foster Care during the Christmas season. A heartfelt thank you to the many parents who generously donated, bringing a little extra joy and warmth to these children on Christmas Day.

A cherished tradition for the Prep students is sharing the story of the first Christmas through their nativity play. On Friday last week, the Prep girls truly brought the story to life with their enthusiasm and heartfelt performances with the Years 1 and 2 girls adding angelic voices and dance items. Thank you to the Prep teachers, Ms Komselis, Ms Rees and Years 1 and 2 teachers. Thank you to Ms Brennan for conducting the beautiful voices of this event. 

Thank you to Ms Box for her leadership and organisation, which ensured each year level celebration over the past fortnight were a great success. Thank you also to Mrs Schiller and Mrs Weinert for supporting behind the scenes. 

This week, Chapel services for students at either end of the primary school were held. Pre-Prep students shared their learning, and we farewelled the Year 6 girls. I will miss the Year 6 girls’ confidence, humour and enthusiasm and I know, as they move to the next stage of their education journey, they will take many primary school memories with them. 

Our last formal Assembly (Acknowledgement Assembly) was held this week, here we acknowledged girls by presenting special sporting, music and academic achievements. I also presented Head of Primary certificates to an exemplary Year 6 girl from each class. Congratulations to Isabella H, Sophie R, Aggie S, Olivia S, Sienna T, Laura W.

The end of the year is a fitting time to reflect on the growth witnessed in every student. Each girl has flourished in many areas of her learning—cultural, academic, sporting, and in the way she supports and cares for others. Thank you to the Primary School Captains, Vivienne L and Alice S for their student leadership, they have set a strong foundation for our 2026 Captains, Lucy C H and Lucy M H.

To all staff, thank you for your dedication, commitment, and the care you bring to providing an education that allows every student to feel proud of who they are and what they have accomplished.  To the departing teachers, you go with our gratitude and best wishes. Thank you also to parents for allowing us to be part of each child’s educational journey. 

As you prepare for the long summer break, it is important for learning to continue in a fun way.  Studies show that during the summer break, students tend to lose some of the important academic gains made during the school year and this is regarded as “summer loss”. On the Primary POD page, I have listed ways to encourage reading, writing and other ideas for holiday learning. 

Keep reading, keep learning, and stay curious over the break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back safely next year, ready for another exciting year of learning and growth.

This announcement comes at the end of an extensive selection process which includes an interview, emcee duties at the Prep to Year 2 Nativity Play and delivering a speech written within a limited timeframe and based on a given stimulus, which this year was a quote from the late Jane Goodall. Goodall stated that “one individual cannot possibly make a difference, alone. It is individual efforts, collectively, that makes a noticeable difference - all the difference in the world!”. The girls spoke with insight, reflection and heart. I have included some extracts from their speeches below to give you a taste of some of the thoughtful messages we were fortunate to hear from our shortlisted candidates.

“The ÃÈÃÃÉç’s Way is represented by everyone, but a captain’s job is leading by example and continuously showing the school values and that is what I know I will do.”

“Today I stand before you as a unique individual, hoping to make a difference in my school community. As primary captain I want to lead you to do the same. But a title is just a title. If I am your leader, I must also be a friend. We must all be one but allow ourselves to shine in our own different ways.”

“Together with my fellow captain we would collectively make small differences not because teachers are watching, not because we want this leadership role, but because we care about the primary school and will make it the happiest place it can be.”

“I will ensure that by working collectively as a ÃÈÃÃÉç’s team, our school will become a much better community and that we will make an incredible difference in this school.”

“What makes this school so special is the people, who are all so welcoming, friendly and helpful...one of my favourite things to do in the morning is to put on my uniform with pride…happiness is a choice and when we choose to support each other, we all grow stronger.”

Christmas Carols Performances

Several of our small ensembles have been providing ‘pop-up’ Christmas carol performances over the past week. Performances have been given by the Clarinet, Flute, Brass and Saxophone Ensembles. Thank you to all these ensembles and their conductors for sharing their Christmas joy with the ÃÈÃÃÉç’s community!

State Honours Ensemble Program – Primary!

The State Honours Ensemble Program is a wonderful program organised by the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University that invites young people to come together and share their passion for making music. ÃÈÃÃÉç’s has a number of primary students who were successful in receiving a place to participate in the upcoming State Honours Ensemble Program for primary Students this weekend. They will join with other young musicians from South East Queensland for an intensive two days of music-making, concluding with finale concerts in the Conservatorium Theatre, Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University at South Bank. We wish the following porimary musicians all the very best for the coming weekend: Anya (Year 4, violin), Emily (Year 4, violin), Paris (Year 5, violin), Grace (Year 5, violin), Helena (Year 5, violin), Alexandra (Year 6, voice), Jessia (Year 6, flute) and Angela (Year 6, voice).

Flyers Program (Music)

Flyers applications for 2026 are now open with applications due by the end of Week 2, Term 1 2026. The Flyers Program is available to our dedicated musicians who are performing at a very high standard and have significant performance/rehearsal commitments beyond the school’s music program (eg. Queensland Youth Orchestra involvement). Students accepted into the Flyers program will have access to variety of benefits including mentoring by industry professionals, access to specialist guest speakers, performance opportunities and assistance with managing their academics alongside performance commitments. Private Music Lessons 2026

Planning has begun for private music tuition in 2026. ÃÈÃÃÉç's Private Music Lessons operate on an opt-out enrolment system. If we do not hear back from you (or you have already informed your private music teacher), your daughter's enrolment in private music lessons will be carried forward to 2026. If your daughter is unable to continue with lessons in 2026 (and you have not yet informed us), please email your private music teacher and the Music Department music@stmargarets.qld.edu.au no later than Monday 24 November 2025. If your daughter will continue lessons unchanged, you do not need to respond, and you do not need to complete any new enrolment forms.  Your private music teacher will communicate lesson arrangements by Week 1 2026, with lessons to commence during Week 2.

Music Support Group

The next Music Support Group meeting will be held on Tuesday 3 February 2026 at 5:00pm in the Canopy Café. We encourage parents from both primary and secondary schools to become involved.

2025 Secondary Sport in Review

Some of the highlights of this year’s sporting achievements and participation include:

Participation Growth: 89% of students across the secondary school participated across 22 non-compulsory sports with an impressive 97% of all Year 9 students playing at least one sport over the course of the year.

Boarder Involvement: 94% of boarding students actively participated in sport in 2025.

Diverse engagement: Across the Years 7 to 12 cohorts of students, the average number of sports that students participated in was three across the calendar year.

Students across different year levels embraced their favourite sports with the following being the most popular in each year level:

Year 7: Club Netball

Year 8: Rowing

Year 9: Rowing

Year 10: Touch Football

Year 11: Club Netball

Year 12: Touch Football

At ÃÈÃÃÉç’s, our Netball program continues to be our most popular sport with 36% of students playing either Club and/or QG Netball followed closely by Touch Football, Rowing, Water Polo, Swimming and AFL.

29 Sport team or Age Group Pennants Won (14 QG Pennants, 3 Club Netball, 1 Club Water Polo, 11 Rowing)

29 State Sports Representatives and 4 National Sports Representatives

Some other notable mentions include our QG Swimming team came in 2^nd at the QGSSSA Swimming Championships, and our Rowing program was 1^st in Percentage and 2^nd in Aggregate Cups. Our QISN Netball Team were Division 2 Queensland Premiers and our Athletics and Cross-Country QG teams continued to move up the leader board at this year’s respective Championships.

Thank you to all ÃÈÃÃÉç’s girls who have contributed on and off the playing fields this year. Whether it’s your first year or your last year, your contributions have helped in creating and fostering a positive sporting community.

Thank you also to all our parents for allowing your daughter/s to participate in our programs and for your commitment through the early drops for training, the late afternoon pick ups, attendance at the weekend fixtures, volunteering your time and/or being part of our parent support groups; your contributions are gratefully received.

To our coaches, teachers and coordinators of sport, especially during my first year here at ÃÈÃÃÉç’s; thank you for your hard work, organisation and providing environments for our sports teams to thrive and foster great sportswoman ship. And a big thank you to Lucy, Ange, Gayle, Sarah, Josh, Jack and Flynn in our sports office who work tirelessly throughout the year to provide the opportunities for students to thrive in 2025.

The Booklists for Pre-Prep to Year 11 2026 are now available and parents are able to order online at .  

New families to ÃÈÃÃÉç’s in 2026 will be required to create a Campion account to gain access the Booklists.  For instructions on how to set up an account please click here Campion Education How to Order. A four-character code is required and the code for ÃÈÃÃÉç's is 89YV.

Orders placed by Wednesday 10 December will receive free delivery and orders will be delivered prior to the commencement of Term 1, 2026. Orders received after the cut-off date will be packed ASAP; however, Campion Education cannot guarantee delivery of these orders prior to commencement of Term 1. A delivery fee will be applied to all late orders.

Throughout the four days of performances, students demonstrated their developing skills in storytelling, mime, poetry recital, prose reading, impromptu speaking and drama. External adjudicators provided invaluable feedback to performers and commented on the very high standard of presentation.

Congratulations to Mia P who is the recipient of the 2025 Noyes Encouragement Award. Each year, this Award is presented to a Year 5 student who the adjudicator believes demonstrates note-worthy potential through their Eisteddfod performances.

The Award honours Jacqueline Noyes and her daughter Allana who both made a significant contribution to the life of Speech and Drama at ÃÈÃÃÉç’s.

Jacqui taught Speech and Drama here from 1980 to 2001 and Allana from 1988 to 2002. While teaching at ÃÈÃÃÉç’s, Jacqui and Allana inspired students with their love of literature and passion for performing and both women continued to provide warm encouragement and constructive feedback for many years after - Jacqui as an adjudicator of the ÃÈÃÃÉç’s Speech and Drama Eisteddfods from 2009 to 2015 and Allana as a visiting AMEB examiner.

Sadly, Jacqui passed away in 2016 and Allana in 2023. We are pleased to remember and honour them through the Noyes Encouragement Award.

Thanks to you, this year 22 students received needs-based bursaries, empowering them to access and complete their ÃÈÃÃÉç’s education.

Because of your generous support our plans for the Arts Precinct, a vibrant new home for performance, creativity, self-expression, and community are well on their way to becoming a reality. So far, we have raised $2.7m of our $3m goal and all received donations to ÃÈÃÃÉç’s Foundation Building Fund have now been transferred from the Foundation to the school, ready to be utilised to bring this incredible project to life.

Of our 616 donors in 2025, two thirds were families within our ÃÈÃÃÉç’s community and one third were Old Girls.

Many of you supported the school through your business or company this year, generously partnering with us and sponsoring events and programs that directly benefit our students.

Whichever vehicle you use to show your support, give back and pay it forward, thank you.

Your kindness is more than a donation - it’s a legacy and the belief that her future is worth investing in.
