Under this ban, Australian children below the age of 16 will be unable to have social media accounts and social media companies will be required to take "reasonable steps" to ensure there are no workarounds. If companies don't enforce the ban, they could face fines of up to $50 million.

While there won't be fines or penalties for young people or their families if the children gain access to the platforms, the legislation is being enacted to protect our children and we hope that the ban will empower our parents in limiting any child under 16 to have their own social media account on these platforms and we certainly discourage them from finding or allowing workarounds for their child.

In line with this legislation, the school will be limiting the creation of school accounts on these platforms whose primary audiences are our students.

While existing sporting and spirit accounts have served a purpose of building community across various groups, when they will soon exclude well over half the student population, such accounts, should they exist, could potentially divide those communities into haves and have nots and put pressure on young people to access them.

Our student leaders will be encouraged to build community through vibrant and active POD pages accessible only to our current community and to all in our community.

The federal government has produced a comprehensive fact sheet which you can view at the below link which further explains their rationale and has outlined some excellent scenarios to assist in understanding what this new legislation will look like.

As they state: “This is about protecting young people – not punishing or isolating them – and supporting parents when it comes to overseeing their children’s health and wellbeing.”

We will keep our community informed of any further developments in this space, as there is likely to be more changes in the months leading up to its implementation.

Term’s notice of withdrawal

Just another reminder that we are working on the 2026 timetable and staffing, and it is important that we have accurate enrolment numbers. Therefore, we would very much appreciate you contacting us in writing to indicate that your child is not returning to ÃÈÃÃÉç’s in 2026. In most year levels, we have waiting lists, and we need to be able to contact those on the list who are hoping to secure a place at the school. To meet the requirement of one term’s notice, advice can be received up to the last Friday of the September school holidays. Ticketing

This year we will again be booking tickets for Speech Night online through QPAC booking system.

• Bookings will open for Year 12 parents only this Friday 5 September, and these families will receive an email on Friday at 9am with the details of how to make their booking.
• Tickets will open to the rest of the school at 5pm on the 7 October. The prize reading assembly occurs on this day.

Please note: your daughters will receive their tickets at school (they will not be sitting with you) and therefore you do not need to book seats for them.

Student attendance and Uniform requirements

The following students will be required to attend Speech Night:

• All Year 11 and 12 students. All students in Year 12 will be required to wear a Church dress. Only prize winners in Year 11 will be required to wear a Church dress. Students in Year 11 who are not prize winners will wear their school middy.
• All boarders will be attending. Boarders who are not prize winners or in Year 12 will wear their school middy.
• All additional prize winners in Years 5-10 and Musicians are required to wear a Church dress.

The Church dress is available for purchase or hire from our Supplies Shop.

• Year 12 Students will be able to go to the School Supply Shop now to arrange their church dress.
• Musicians can start arranging their Church Dress from Monday 8 September.
• Prize winners will be able to arrange their Church Dress following the Prize reading Assembly on Tuesday 7 October.

This week in Year 7 On Being Human we started our unit on dealing with conflict. In this unit we explore some of the reasons for conflict and how we deal with anger. As part of this unit, we look at perceptual filters, that is, the lenses that shape and influence our understanding of others and the world around us. These filters might include beliefs; culture; traditions; past experiences; and, feelings/moods.

Living with difference isn’t always easy but it is always dynamic and means that we are able to achieve more and learn more when we work together. In learning to understand other points of view, perceptual filters and communication styles, we grow as humans and are better able to apply compassion and empathy in our daily encounters.

Real wisdom, God’s wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by getting along with others. It is gentle and reasonable, overflowing with mercy and blessings, not hot one day and cold the next, not two-faced. You can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God and enjoy its results only if you do the hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other with dignity and honour.

These formal dinners are far more than a change of menu. Carefully curated by staff, each evening is themed around a different country, culture, or concept, with thoughtful attention to detail that turns the night into a full cultural experience. From authentic cuisine to traditional music, themed decor, and interactive moments, no two dinners are ever the same.

More than anything, these events are a beautiful way to celebrate each year level as its own unique cohort. Each formal dinner is exclusive to one year group, offering an intimate and age-appropriate space to connect, reflect, and celebrate shared experiences. Sitting together at one long beautifully set table, students are encouraged to slow down, engage in meaningful conversation, and practise good table manners, an important part of growing up in a community and preparing for life beyond school. It is also a special treat to enjoy these special nights at different areas of the school other than the Dining Hall.

Recent themes have included ‘A Night in Italy’, with green and white tablecloths, fresh herbs in terracotta pots, fairy lights, pasta, and classic Italian ballads filling the air; a vibrant ‘Mexican Fiesta’ featuring colourful pinatas, tacos and churros, and upbeat Latin music; a glamorous ‘Hollywood Stars’ evening, where students walked a red carpet, posed for photos, and were awarded Oscar trophies; and a ‘Greek Island Getaway’, with blue and white decor, platters of souvlaki, pita and tzatziki, and traditional bouzouki music that had the girls holding hands and dancing in a line around the Barley Sugar Gardens.

These dinners are such a special part of boarding life. It’s not just about the food, it’s about learning something new, dressing up, and sharing the experience with your year group. It makes boarding feel like family. Each event is led by the boarder representatives of the year level, who serve as MCs for the night. They are joined by staff and the year level’s boarding captains and prefects, who sit alongside the students, helping create a warm, celebratory atmosphere that breaks from the usual pace of school life and dinner sittings.

These dinners are more than a fun tradition they quietly teach empathy, respect, cultural appreciation, and confidence in social settings. They also strengthen year group bonds by allowing students to share a meal in a formal setting, where listening, conversation, and gratitude are just as important as what’s on the plate.

As each term progresses, the theme for the next dinner remains a well-guarded secret, sparking excitement and speculation among the boarders. Wherever in the world they’re taken next, one thing is certain, it will be a night to remember.

Strategies for turning stress into productivity:

• Plan. Schedule your time to incorporate work from multiple subjects and breaks for socialising, exercising, eating and sleeping.
• Be realistic about how much work you can complete in a session. If you usually only focus for 30 minutes at a time, don’t plan to work for three hours straight.
• Breathe. Step away from your work area, take some deep breaths and stretch every now and then. This gets the blood flowing and make sure your brain has plenty of oxygen.
• Reward yourself. This could be going out with friends, watching TV, anything that you look forward to. Make sure you schedule these things in to keep your motivation going.
• Sleep. Aim for 10 hours a night whenever possible, plan to have 30 minutes of screen free time before bed to aid the transition.

 Teachers will be progressively uploading these Interim Attitude to Learning grades over the next couple of weeks to Learning Analytics, with all grades being available from 5:00pm Friday 19 September.

Students are encouraged to speak with their teachers about these interim grades and ask how they can improve in Term 4. As always, it is expected that these conversations are conducted in a courteous and respectful manner, and that their intention is centred on ways the student can improve or maintain their attitude to learning.

Interim Attitude to Learning grades are subject to change in Term 4, with a final Attitude to Learning grade to be published for each subject in the Semester 2 Academic Reports.

According to Abrams (2023), people with close friendships are more satisfied with their lives and less likely to suffer from depression or chronic illness. Friendships not only buffer against stress but also promote longevity—individuals with strong social connections are significantly less likely to die prematurely. These benefits are not limited to deep bonds; even casual interactions with acquaintances can enhance wellbeing.

Moreover, friendships contribute to both hedonic (pleasure-based) and eudaimonic (meaning-based) wellbeing. Anderson and Fowers (2020) found that friendships grounded in virtue—those based on mutual admiration and shared values—are especially powerful in fostering personal growth and life satisfaction.

As Oswald (2017) notes, maintaining long-lasting friendships requires intentional effort, but the rewards are profound: increased happiness, reduced loneliness, and better mental health. In a world where loneliness is on the rise, investing in meaningful friendships is not just beneficial—it is vital.

Here at ÃÈÃÃÉç’s, more often than not, great long-lasting friendships are made. As a school, we cultivate this through our supportive pastoral care, inclusive community values, and opportunities for students to connect meaningfully across year levels.

At the Arts Spectacular, our Years 5 and 6 students shone with creativity through dance, art, and song. The event provided an invaluable platform for self-expression, building confidence and encouraging individuality. A heartfelt thank you goes to Donna Free, Yvonne Grieve and all staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes and on the bar, to Regina Brennan for conducting the Year 5 Choral performance and to Annette Box for her artistic direction and organisation. We also thank the Year 5 parents who so generously organised the food for the evening.

On Saturday, the Downey Park netball season ended for most of our primary teams, except for Team 27 who will compete in the grand final this weekend. Club netball has offered the girls not only the chance to build fitness but also to develop teamwork, discipline, and resilience. It has been inspiring to watch them face both victories and challenges with such grace. Congratulations to Teams 24, 26, and 29, which have each secured third place.

Many girls have participated in Andrews Cup competitions over the past weeks. The athletics competition saw the 8, 9 and 10-year-olds each placed third with the school coming third overall. Congratulations to Rosie V N who broke a record for division 6 100metres and to Lenny C who broke a record for high jump division 1. This week our cricket teams competed with the A Grade team achieving second place and the C blue team achieving third place. Sport continues to play a vital role in supporting our girls’ wellbeing and shaping them into confident, well-rounded young women.

Sunday then turned to academic pursuits, with six teams proudly representing the school in the Opti-MINDS competition. Their creativity, critical thinking, and ability to present confidently before the judges highlighted the strength of our academic and leadership programs. Congratulations to Jemima P, Ariella L, Michelle D, Sofia F, Sofia G, Addison M who were awarded Honours in the Language Literature Division 1 Challenge. Our thanks go to Mr Cox for his training and support, and to Mrs Briggs for attending on the day.

The occurrence of these three events in a single week truly captures the breadth of education at our school. Through the arts, sport, and academic challenge, our students seize every opportunity to learn, grow, and excel, preparing them for success both within and beyond the classroom.

One of the first of these is the introduction of lockers and the Panama at lunch times from the start of Year 6. This is in preparation for their Year 7 experience but also adds more weight to the infamous ‘Panama Throw’ in the Atrium on the girls’ last day of Year 6. As of 2026 we will be introducing two new components to the Year 6 experience, that of the option to purchase a ÃÈÃÃÉç’s School blazer to wear in Year 6 (with these becoming compulsory in Year 7) and the addition of a new school diary, which the secondary school girls will also have, to prepare them for their future studies and to assist them to develop appropriate planning and organisational skills. These initiatives recognise the role of the Year 6 girls as leaders in the primary school and support their steps towards their senior years of schooling.

From this Friday, the official days designed to prepare the Year 6 girls for Year 7 commence, with Testing and Activities Day. This enables the girls to meet their future Head of Year and Form Teachers and to be exposed to new processes and protocols, amidst a range of fun pursuits. On 24 October, the girls participate in Step Up Day where they have the opportunity to experience more holistically a day in the life of a Year 7 ÃÈÃÃÉç’s girl. This transition journey is rounded out with Year 7 Welcome Day, on which the girls’ experiences so far are synthesised and come together to best prepare the girls for their next big adventure. Students from the primary and secondary school, and staff in both teaching and leadership roles are heavily involved in this important process and much planning and care is taken to ensure our girls are future ready.

Until then, the Year 6 students have many exciting end of year events to look forward to, from their Final Chapel and Morning Tea Presentations to the Acknowledgement Assembly, Disco, Activities Day, Cornerstone Project and the aforementioned Panama Toss. These events allow the girls to mark their time in the primary school meaningfully, and to move on with wonderful memories. We look forward to sharing in these special events with you and supporting your daughters in their readiness for Year 7.

New Zealand Music Tour/Festival – Deposits Due

A reminder that deposits of $795 are due by Friday September 18 to secure a place on the Music Tour to the Rotorua Rhapsody Music Festival in New Zealand. Deposit payments can be made via Parent Lounge. Please note the deposit is fully refundable if insufficient numbers commit to the tour. Music Dinner

The tickets are now available for the upcoming Music Dinner. The theme for this year’s Music Dinner will be Heroes vs Villains! Music Dinner will be held in Term 4 on 10 October and is a wonderful event where we can celebrate the achievements of our music students throughout the year and also acknowledge our outgoing music seniors. Students (and parents) are encouraged to come along dressed according to the theme. We always love seeing everyone’s creativity! All music students in Years 7-12 involved in music ensembles are encouraged to attend. Any Year 6 students involved in music ensembles are also welcome to join us for the evening (and will be chaperoned by a music staff member). Parents of students in Years 9-12 who have been involved in the Co-curricular music program for the year are welcome to attend. Should extra tickets become available, parents of Years 7 & 8 attending the music dinner will be given the opportunity to also purchase tickets.

Tickets are $95 for adults and $75 for students and are available only through . For catering purposes, it is imperative you include any dietary requirements and payments are made by 5pm, Tuesday 23 September. Please be mindful there is a capped number, so book your tickets early! The cut-off time allows the Music Support Group and Catering to finalise purchasing of perishable goods and appropriate table allocations prior to the event. Maggies Idol Winners

Congratulations to all girls who performed in the Secondary Interhouse Music week competition, Maggies Idol. There were many great performances, ranging from singers to those playing brass, woodwind and string instruments. Thank you to every girl who had the courage to perform. Many were quite nervous, but it was impressive to see them overcome their fears and provide amazing performances. Thank you also to all the students who came along to support and encourage those performing. Special congratulations to Herrick house for winning the Spirit Award for having the most performances and the most student supporters. Practice-a-thon!

As part of the Interhouse Music Week, a Practice-a-thon was held in the primary school. Students were asked to sign up and commit to practising a nominated amount of time over a two-week period and seek sponsorship for doing so. As a result, the primary students raised a total of $7499 which is a phenomenal effort. This money will go toward new resources for the Music Program, including a Steinway piano for the new ÃÈÃÃÉç’s Arts Precinct. Thank you to all the girls who signed up, to the parents and friends who supported the students, and the Music Support Group for providing the prizes and organising the fundraiser. Student Congratulations

Congratulations to Christy (Year 8) who was one of only three members chosen to perform a solo at the beginning of the recent Scenes and Songs concert by QYO’s Junior String Ensemble 1 on Saturday 23 August. Christy gave a brilliant rendition of Brahm’s Hungarian Dance No 2, playing from memory with confidence and flair, then going on to play with the orchestra in a varied program of string orchestra music which included For Good from Wicked and the fiery Danse Bacchanale by Saint-Saëns. This is a wonderful achievement Christy!

Professional Women’s Networking Breakfast Performances

Thank you to Evie (Year 12) who gave a wonderful vocal performance of River by Leon Bridges accompanied by Mr Ng on violin at the recent Professional Women’s Networking Breakfast. The performance was filled with emotion and appreciated by everyone in attendance. Thank you also to the Sculthorpe String Quartet who entertained guests as they arrived and networked prior to the breakfast.

Soloists Recital #3

Congratulations to all students who performed at the third Soloists Recital for the year on Wednesday afternoon in the Arts Centre Foyer. It was a lovely afternoon of music with a wide range of styles performed on a variety of different instruments. All girls should be exceptionally proud of their performances!

Open Mic

Our Term 3 Open Mic Session was held on Thursday last week. Congratulations to all students who performed. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their musical talents to the broader student community, and wonderful to have so many girls supporting the performances in the Barley Sugar Gardens. Thank you, especially to our 2025 Music Captains for their assistance in organising the event.

The next Music Support Group meeting will be held on Tuesday 7 October 2025 at 5:00pm in the Circular Drive Classroom 01 (in front of the Arts Centre Foyer). Parents from both the primary and secondary school are welcome to attend.

This weekend is our final home round for QGSSSA winter fixtures for 2025 versus Clayfield College. We hope to see as many girls as possible supporting these teams. Good luck to our players in Hockey, Tennis, Netball and Volleyball. It will be the last home game for our Year 12s playing QG Winter fixtures and we thank them for their contributions. Please check the POD for all fixture details for this upcoming round.

Congratulations to all Club Netball teams for a great 2025 season and good luck to our Club Netball Grand Finalists playing for top position this Saturday, 6 September at Downey Park: STM 4, STM 10, STM 12, STM 18, STM 21, STM 22 and STM 27. We are wish all players and coaches the best and know that they will play hard and fair and represent ÃÈÃÃÉç’s well as they have done all season.

Last Sunday, 31 August, the rescheduled Head of the River was held at Wyaralong Dam. Well done to all rowers for their resilience in adjusting to this last-minute change of date due to predicted weather conditions which, as evidenced on Saturday, was a justified reschedule by the BRSA.

Congratulations to all our rowers this year with the overall results culminating in a Percentage Cup win for ÃÈÃÃÉç’s on the day. Our rowers gave it there best out on the water after months of early starts at the rowing shed, afternoons at the gym here at school, weekend sessions, various trials and rowing camps. Thank you to the coaches and staff as well as the Rowing Support Group and parent volunteers for helping to make this season a success.

The sport office is currently compiling its annual listing of State and National sporting representatives. Please ensure that any students who have represented the state or nationally through the club or school pathway complete the link which can be found on the Secondary Sport POD page as soon as possible. Students will also need to provide evidence through a letter from the state or national body confirming this representation. Thank you to all students who have already completed this form. We look forward to celebrating your achievements at the upcoming sports awards.

Year 11 Term 4 2025 (Year 12 2026) Booklist

The Booklists for Year 11 Term 4 2025 (Year 12 2026) are now available and parents are able to order online at .  

Orders that were placed by 29 August will receive free delivery and will be delivered prior to the commencement of Term 4. Orders received after the cut-off date will be packed ASAP however, Campion Education cannot guarantee delivery of these orders prior to commencement of Term 4. A delivery fee will be applied to all late orders.

Please Note: Families who created an account in 2024/2025 are not required to enter the Resource code below.  For new families, you will need to create an account by clicking on the "Parents Order Here" button located top right-hand corner of the Campion website.  A four-character code is required to access the 2026 resource lists; the code for ÃÈÃÃÉç's is 89YV.

Blazer Fittings – Secondary School

Blazer Fittings - Students in Years 7 to 10 in 2026 should consider coming into the Supplies Shop to be fitted for their blazer prior to the end of Term 4, 2025. Orders will need to be placed by 14 November 2025 for a March 2026 delivery. Students can visit the Supplies Shop during our opening hours (no appointment required). A blazer fitting takes around 15 minutes. The cost of the blazer is $275 and is payable at the time of ordering.

Church Dress Hire for Speech Night

Hiring of the Church Dress for Year 12 students has now commenced. All musicians involved in Speech Night can be outfitted for the Church Dress from Monday 8 September. Church Dress hire forms must be completed and signed by a parent or guardian. The hire form is available here Church Dress Hire Form. A Deposit holding fee of $115 is payable for the hire of the Church Dress and upon return (as per conditions listed on the hire form) a refund of $70 will be given.  Plain white fold down ankle socks (not ÃÈÃÃÉç’s competition socks), brown school shoes and a white ribbon are to be worn with the dress.

Just a reminder to ensure that the daily limit is set high enough to cover the cost of the uniform items being purchased, otherwise we will not be able to complete the transaction.

Blazers are collected every Thursday after morning tea and take between 2 to 3 weeks to be embroidered.

P&F Fathers Dinner Wrap up

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 2025 Fathers' Dinner at Howard Smith Wharves on Friday 22 August. After the original event was postponed in March due to Cyclone Alfred, it was a real pleasure to finally come together for a night filled with connection, laughter and community spirit. With over 300 fathers and father figures in attendance, guests enjoyed a brilliant set from comedian Luke Heggie, a lively Heads and Tails competition, and plenty of opportunities to catch up with friends- old and new.

With thanks to your generosity, as well as the support of our Sponsors and Prize Donors, the event raised over $40,000 to support school projects that will enrich the student experience. This includes contributing to the ÃÈÃÃÉç’s Foundation’s The World is Her Stage Capital Campaign, which will help bring to life our new performing Arts Precinct, that will become the heart of music, drama and performance on our campus.

The world is her stage

Our students have talent, passion and imagination, and we are setting out to create a facility to match their potential.

With this vision in mind, ÃÈÃÃÉç’s Foundation unveils "The world is her stage" Capital Campaign to support the realisation of the new Arts Precinct, that will become the heart of music, drama and performance on our campus.

The precinct will provide new spaces that will meet both the curricular and extracurricular needs of the arts program, including a purpose-built Blackbox Theatre, Recital Hall, dedicated rehearsal spaces, music rooms, and teaching studios, all designed to deliver a world-class learning environment for our primary and secondary students and to support excellence in the performing Arts.

Our students can look forward to increased opportunities to gain exposure to the best talent in the performing arts, access new dedicated spaces for rehearsals and equipment storage, and undertake technical learning in digital animation, production and set design.

So far, thanks to the generosity of our community, including past students, parents and staff, we have raised more than $2.69 million of our $3 million target. But we need your support to reach our goal.
